The De Vaux's of Dirleton
The de Vaux family built Dirleton Castle in the 13th century, an eventful period in Scotland's history. Whilst Lord de Vaux decides which side to back in the Wars of Independence, daily life in the household goes on as always. Historic Saltire Society invites you to join the inhabitants and experience castle life in the 1290's

The Cross and the Saltire
By 1308, the Knights Templar were persecuted throughout Europe. Some of them escaped the vengeance of the King of France a made their way to the furthest reaches of Christendom. The Historic Saltire Society presents the arrival of one such Templar on Scottish soil and the chain of events which led to him joining Robert the Bruce's struggle against Edward II of England.
